1745 George II “LIMA” Halfcrown – NGC AU Details (Cleaned)

  • Monarch: George II

  • Date: 1745

  • Mint: London

  • Metal: Silver (.925)

  • Weight (standard): 14.14g

  • Diameter: 32mm

  • Edge: Milled

  • Reference: Spink 3688

A highly desirable example of the celebrated 1745 LIMA issue, struck from silver captured during Britain’s naval victories over Spanish treasure fleets. The word LIMA beneath the royal bust commemorates the origin of the bullion and makes this one of the most historically evocative issues of the Georgian series.

Obverse: Laureate and draped bust of George II left, GEORGIUS II DEI GRATIA, LIMA below.
Reverse: Cruciform shields with central Garter Star, crowned Hanoverian arms at top; date 1745 in legend.

Well-struck with strong remaining detail across the hair and reverse shields. Graded AU Details by NGC due to past cleaning, though retaining attractive definition and overall eye appeal.

A key type coin for advanced collectors of British milled silver and LIMA issues.
