United Kingdom. George III. Halfcrown, 1817. Small Bust. Silver. NGC MS63.
Obverse: Laureate small bust of George III facing right, legend GEORGIUS III DEI GRATIA, date 1817 below. Crisp portrait detail with full hair definition and strong laurel leaf veins.
Reverse: Crowned quartered shield of arms within garter, legend BRITANNIARUM REX FID DEF. Excellent shield clarity with sharp internal detail and strong beading.
A superb example of the first issue halfcrown of the Great Recoinage of 1816–1817. The “Small Bust” type is scarcer than the later large bust variety and highly sought after in true Mint State.
Graded NGC MS63, this piece displays:
• Strong original mint bloom
• Attractive steel-grey tone with subtle cabinet patina
• Full strike on hair and shield
• Minimal contact marks for the grade
A high-end example for the advanced George III or milled silver collector.
