🔎 DescriptionÂ
A superb high-grade example of the 1916 silver Halfcrown of King George V, struck during the height of the First World War.
The obverse features the bare head of George V facing left, designed by Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, with sharp definition to the moustache, ear detail and hair. The fields retain attractive original mint lustre, with only minor contact marks consistent with the assigned MS63 grade.
The reverse displays the crowned quartered shield of arms within the Order of the Garter, flanked by date below. The shield details — including the lions of England and the harp of Ireland — are crisp and well-struck. Strong eye appeal with pleasing cartwheel lustre across both sides.
A scarce coin in true Mint State, especially certified by NGC. Many surviving 1916 halfcrowns show heavy circulation due to wartime use — examples in MS63 are considerably tougher than raw market availability suggests.
🎯 Grade Assessment
NGC MS63 – Choice Mint State
For George V halfcrowns, MS63 is a solid investment-grade level, above the usual MS61/62 seen in the market.
