1918 George V Silver Half Crown
NGC MS62 – Choice Uncirculated
A superb high-grade example of the 1918 half crown from the reign of George V. Struck in .925 sterling silver during the final year of the First World War, this issue represents the last year before Britain transitioned to .500 silver in 1920.
The obverse features the bare head portrait of King George V facing left (B.M. initials truncation), legend:
GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX
The reverse displays the crowned quartered shield of arms within the Garter, dated 1918, with full detail remaining in the lions, harp strings and crown jewels.
Grade: NGC MS62
• Fully Mint State
• Strong remaining mint bloom
• No wear — only light bag marks consistent with the grade
• Attractive, original surfaces
• Sharp rim denticles and bold legends
For a 1918 issue, Mint State pieces are much scarcer than circulated examples. Most saw heavy commerce during wartime Britain.
