1893 Crown – Victoria “Old Head” – NGC AU58

Premium Late-Victorian Type – Choice About Uncirculated

A beautifully preserved example of the classic 1893 “Old Head” Crown, certified NGC AU58 — the grade many seasoned collectors actively seek.

The Thomas Brock portrait of Queen Victoria is sharply defined, with strong detail remaining in the veil, hair and facial features. Only the lightest touch of friction is visible on the highest points. The surfaces retain attractive originality and pleasing cabinet tone.

Pistrucci’s iconic St. George and the Dragon reverse is bold and well-struck, with excellent detail in the horse, rider and dragon — far superior to the average circulated example encountered on the market.

Why AU58 matters:
This is effectively a “slider” — a coin that sits on the cusp of Mint State, offering the look and presence of an uncirculated example without the significant premium of MS grades. For many collectors, AU58 represents the best balance of eye appeal and value.

Victorian crowns in this condition remain consistently sought after, particularly slabbed examples from NGC providing full authentication and market confidence.
