Ptolemaic Kingdom (Egypt), Ptolemy I or Ptolemy II (uncertain)
Silver coin, Regnal Year ΙΕ (15), c. early 3rd century BC.
Obverse:
Idealised male head right (royal/Zeus-like portrait), Hellenistic style; diadem and aegis not clearly visible due to wear and off-centre strike.
Reverse:
Eagle standing left on thunderbolt. Greek legend fragment around:
ΠΤ…ΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕ… (from ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ, “of King Ptolemy”).
In left field: ΙΕ (Greek numeral = regnal year 15).
Weight: 13.60 g
Diameter: 25 mm
Thickness: 3.92 mm
Condition: Fine–Very Fine; off-centre strike with incomplete legend; flan crack as struck.
Notes:
The surviving legend fragment …ΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕ… and visible ΠΤ confirm Ptolemaic attribution. The regnal year ΙΕ (15) is consistent with issues of Ptolemy I Soter or Ptolemy II Philadelphus. Due to incomplete legend and portrait wear, precise ruler attribution remains uncertain.
