1902 Great Britain Crown – Edward VII – Proof Issue – NGC Proof Details (Cleaned)
Certification No. 6382787-004
A desirable 1902 coronation-year Proof Crown featuring the iconic De Saulles St George and Dragon reverse.
Struck in sterling silver (92.5%), 38mm diameter, weight 28.28g.
The reverse displays a superbly struck dynamic St George on horseback slaying the dragon, with bold definition in the horse musculature, flowing cape and ground line detail. The 1902 date is clear and well-spaced, with sharp border denticles.
The obverse portrait of King Edward VII shows excellent hair and beard definition, with full facial contour and strong rim legend:
EDWARDVS VII DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF: IND: IMP.
This example has been graded by NGC as Proof Details – Cleaned.
The cleaning appears to have brightened the surfaces but has not impaired the strong strike or overall eye appeal. The coin retains attractive detail and remains a highly presentable Proof example.
Proof 1902 crowns are far scarcer than the currency strikes and are keenly collected in both raw and certified formats.
An excellent opportunity to acquire a certified coronation-year Proof Crown at a sensible price point.
