Thessalian League AR Double Victoriatus
c. 150–100 BC
Silver, 6.10g, 22mm
Obverse: Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; monogram behind head.
Reverse: ΘΕΣΣΑΛΩΝ, KOTTY. Athena Itonia advancing right, holding spear upright in right hand and shield on left arm.
A well-struck federal silver issue of the Thessalian League from the late Hellenistic period. Zeus is shown in strong classical style, while the reverse depicts Athena Itonia — the principal cult deity of Thessaly — advancing in a composed and powerful stance.
Good silver with attractive toning and clear magistrate inscription. A solid mid-grade example of this popular Greek League issue struck during the period of Roman influence in mainland Greece.
