Description:
The obverse features the laureate and draped bust of Charles II facing right, with the legend CAROLVS II DEI GRATIA. The reverse displays the crowned cruciform shields with sceptres in the angles and central Garter star, with the legend MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX.
This example shows honest circulation wear consistent with a Very Fine coin. The portrait remains well defined, the legends are clear, and the reverse retains strong detail. The coin exhibits attractive old toning with subtle golden hues.
NGC has certified the coin as VF Details due to a noted repair on the obverse. The repair does not detract heavily from the overall eye appeal, but it is properly disclosed and reflected in the pricing.
Historical Context:
Struck during England’s recovery following the Civil War and Commonwealth period, Charles II’s coinage represents the re-establishment of the monarchy. Milled silver issues of this era are increasingly collected for their historical importance and classic Restoration portraiture
