Great Britain 1946 Half Crown
King George VI (1936–1952)
Graded AU 58 by NGC
Obverse: Bare head of King George VI facing left, legend GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX.
Reverse: Crowned quartered shield within ornate Tudor rose design, date below (not shown in this image but standard type).
Certified and encapsulated by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) – certification number visible on slab.
This coin sits right on the cusp of Mint State. Strong remaining mint lustre with only light high-point friction. Excellent eye appeal for the type and far superior to typical circulated examples.
🔹 Grade Commentary (AU58)
AU58 is effectively “slider” territory:
-
Light friction on the highest points (hair above the ear, cheek, shield high points)
-
Strong underlying lustre
-
No major marks or distractions
-
Very close to MS60 but with a slight rub
For George VI Half Crowns, AU58 examples are noticeably scarcer than raw EF pieces, especially certified.
